 JUNIOR GOLF
With more and more children taking an interest in golf, many new junior
programs and facilities have been created across both the UK and the World
to enable youngsters to become involved. Junior golfers need to be
encouraged both by their parents and by the golf program they join. Its
important that golf is shown as an exciting and enjoyable pass time and the
rewards of hitting a fantastic drive are as great as scoring a goal on the
football pitch.
The Sussex Golf Academy junior programs ensure
that your child's initial interest in golf is expanded and developed so that
not only does their technical ability improve but also their enjoyment of
the game.
The academy also has NSPCC certified golf
coaches and has adopted "The Children in Golf Child Protection Policy" and
has already implemented many of its procedures.

Our
junior golf camps and junior group lessons
are an excellent way to get your children out on the course with other
junior golfers of similar ages and skills. We work on both the children's
overall golf game, from teeing off to putting and everything in between to
rules and etiquette and general behaviour on course. Our

Group Lessons
We feel one of the best ways to encourage
junior golfers is via to give them
goals, which when reached they are rewarded. The Sussex Golf Academy Junior
Awards and Coaching Scheme allows youngsters to aim towards a set of targets
which are tailored to develop their overall game. The scheme has been
expertly created by the academies director of coaching and works on all
aspects of the child's golfing skill and knowledge. To achieve the various
certificate levels,
junior golfers must show technical ability of the golf
swings and knowledge of club use, rules and etiquette. To find out more

The Sussex Golf Academy are committed to growing the game of golf in the UK
and promoting it amongst the younger generation. In addition to our range of
junior golf lessons and coaching programs we also organise junior golf
events throughout the year, the highlight of which is the annual SGA Junior
Open Tournament.
 As the name suggests the SGA Junior Open is open to all
junior golfers from all over the country. The tournament is separated into
age groups allowing children to compete against other juniors which are at a
similar level. The tournament is becoming more popular year by year and we
have found the social interaction and enjoyment of competing the children

Advice for Parents
As a parent what can you do to help your children? Children learn by
imitation, so watching others play golf is a great way for them to improve.
Let them watch a PGA event on the television. Its amazing how a child's
interest is sparked when they see the pro's in action.
Even if you don't play (or even like) golf yourself, try to take your child
to the driving range (children have great fun trying to hit the targets) or
to the golf course. If you can't then see if a friend or family member can
take them along but try to take them when the course is less busy and
therefore less daunting.
The real trick is to help and encourage your child without pushing them and
applying pressure. The main focus for
junior golf is to keep it fun and
interesting anyway you can. If your child enjoys playing golf, they will
naturally want to develop their skills further.
